Lung Center

You can breathe easier knowing that the Lung Team at Riverview is on your side.

The team comes together at the comprehensive Lung Center at Riverview to provide expert, collaborative and personalized care for patients with lung disease.

The Team Approach
At Riverview, a multidisciplinary team of pulmonologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, and thoracic surgeons meets regularly to consult on optimal treatment strategies for their patients.

This team approach provides clinical expertise from multiple specialties, culminating in a collaborative plan that provides the best course of action for the patient. As a team, physicians can develop treatment plans that include advanced surgical procedures, radiation therapy, medical oncology, clinical trials, and pharmaceuticals to address the individual needs of the patient.

Lung Cancer Screening Program

In the United States, there are approximately 160,000 deaths from lung cancer each year, making it the leading cause of cancer deaths. Approximately 85% of lung cancer cases are attributable to smoking and although the percentage of current smokers is declining, the risk for former smokers continues even after smoking stops.

Early detection of lung cancer is critical. Treatment at early stages of lung cancer can lead to more treatment options, less invasive surgery, and a higher survival rate. Until recently, there has been no reliable way to detect lung cancer in its earliest, more treatable stage.

Riverview Medical Center is now offering a Lung Cancer Screening Program for individuals at high risk for developing lung cancer. Low-dose CT lung cancer screening is quick and easy and results in a minimal amount of radiation exposure. The program is led by a multidisciplinary team of experts from radiology, pulmonary medicine, thoracic surgery, and medical oncology. Patients involved in the screening program will be guided through initial screening, long term follow-up and, if needed, treatment.
