About Our CT, MRI, & Other Diagnostic Services

64-Slice CT Scan
A CT Scanner obtains detailed, cross-section X-ray images of very specific areas of your body. While the images are being taken, the table moves into the machine allowing the technologist or radiologist to image the entire area needed in the least amount of time possible. Images are displayed on a computer monitor and are available to your physician in their office through the PACS system.

Riverview's 64-Slice or Multi-Slice CT Scanner provides incredibly clear images by allowing our technicians and radiologists to acquire thinner slices and 3-D images, at the lowest dose. This detailed view of a patient's anatomy leads to faster diagnosis and treatment planning for physicians and their patients. Additionally, greater anatomical coverage in a very short time means shorter breath holds, a key factor for older or medically compromised individuals. The 64-Slice is also useful for determining one's risk of coronary disease with 64-Slice CT Angiography.

MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI or MR) is used to find problems, such as tumors, bleeding, injury, blood vessel problems, or infection. MRI may be used to look at the head, chest, blood vessels, abdomen and pelvis and bones and joints.

MRI uses magnetic fields instead of radiation to take highly detailed pictures of the body. The images are obtained by surrounding the area to be studied with a magnet, which causes the water molecules inside the body to move. In some cases contrast may be used to provide more detailed images. A computer picks up the movements and converts them into pictures. The images are then displayed on a computer screen, stored within the computer, or transferred to film.

Ultrasound
Ultrasound at Riverview, sometimes called a sonogram, is a type of imaging that visualizes internal structures by recording the pulsating "echoes" of harmless and painless sound waves that are directed to a specific area of the body. A computer converts the electrical impulses into images that are displayed onto a monitor and recorded so that a radiologist can view them and interpret the results. Riverview also has a Registered Vascular Technologist who performs and administers various vascular tests such as screening for PDV and aortic aneurisms.

Radiology

Plain X-Ray: taken using ionizing radiation that penetrates the body, resulting in images that are captured on film.

Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP): Obtains X-ray images of the urinary tract system (kidneys, ureters, and bladder) following the injection of a contrast substance that enhances the images.

Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Series: Commonly called a GI Series, this procedure that obtains X-ray images of the gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach, and small intestine) after the ingestion of contrast liquid called barium sulfate, which coats the walls of the GI tract and enhances the images.

Barium Enema: an examination of the large bowel (part of the intestines) with the use of a fluoroscope. The procedure uses X-rays to capture a moving image of an organ while it is functioning.
