The creation of a center for surgical excellence at Riverview Medical Center will have the following real impacts on the level of excellence in providing health care to our patients and our community:

  • The potential establishment of multi-disciplinary specialty programs centered on surgical innovation and technological advancement, attracting leading surgeons from all over the nation to promote innovation and master new surgical techniques.  These programs would also provide educational opportunities for aspiring or current health professionals, and for partnerships with industry to advance new surgical technologies. Community outreach programs will include opportunities for high school students interested in medicine to watch procedures performed at the Center. Surgical, nursing, and other professional development seminars will also be offered.

  • Creation of a superior environment that will remain flexible to respond to future advances in health care, while inviting programs currently not available in the Monmouth County area.

  • Expansion of surgical expertise and capacity that will enhance high-end acute surgical services available to the community we serve. Residents will no longer choose to travel to New York or Philadelphia for high-end surgical procedures; instead they can be cared for locally at Riverview Medical Center.

  • Additionally private patient healing rooms will increase patient satisfaction substantially, aid in the recruitment of leading surgeons, and contribute to the creation of a healing environment that will remain flexible to respond to future changes in health care. Private patient rooms have been proven to reduce the incidences of nosocomial infections and medication errors, resulting in fewer patient moves and reductions in overall noise levels. As such, physicians are demanding these rooms for their patients in their quest to provide a continuum of superior surgical care.

  • Providing Riverview Medical Center the opportunity to strengthen nursing care by delivering services specific to each patient population.

  • Outfitting of the new operating suites with cutting-edge technology will enable mutliple surgical specialties to operate in the most superior environment in the region, further attracting the best and brightest surgeons to the campus. These technologies, such as iCT, will provide surgeons with real-time feedback during procedures, enhance work flow and efficiency, and allow for the development of new techniques through research capabilities. For instance, iCT, combined with an image guidance system to form an integrated OR suite, will allow growth and expansion of our surgical programs primarily in the following areas: neurosurgery, spine, orthopedics, ENT, trauma, and cranio-maxillo-facial. With this technology, members of the community would no longer need to travel out of the region for surgical procedures such as tumor resection, skull base surgery, cranial vascular surgery, and vertebroplasty.
