Sleep Center

If you consistently have trouble sleeping at night, or have an uncontrollable desire to sleep during the day, you may have a sleep disorder. Left untreated, sleep disorders may even endanger your physical and mental health. Your mood, memory, and ability to concentrate may all suffer. In extreme cases, there can be life-threatening consequences.

  • Narcolepsy, an inability to stay awake even during the day, is hazardous if you drive or operate machinery.

  • Sleep apnea — repeated interruptions of breathing — can have harmful effects on your brain, heart, and lungs.

Take our Sleep Quiz to see if you should talk to your physician about a potential sleep disorder

Riverview Medical Center's Sleep Disorders Laboratory offers help to those who suffer from a variety of sleeping disorders in two convenient locations. One sleep center is located in the medical center, and one is located in Holmdel, NJ. Both centers are staffed with specialists in neurology, pulmonary medicine, psychiatry, and otorhinolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat), and equipped with the latest high-tech equipment.

Once you are referred to us:

  • You may be asked to spend an evening being monitored in one of our private rooms (depending on your symptoms). Each room is equipped with a television, and soft music to help you relax.

  • One of our specially trained technologists, using sophisticated equipment, will observe and monitor your breathing, heart activity, body movements, brain waves, and eye movement. The procedure is pain-free and in most cases, results are conclusive after just one session.

If you are diagnosed with sleep apnea, there are several ways in which it can be treated, including weight loss, CPAP Therapy, and uvulopalatoplasty — a surgical procedure that's been proven to be 85 to 95 percent successful. This outpatient procedure removes excess tissue from the back of the throat using a laser, with little discomfort and minimal loss of work time.

Comprehensive services for sleep disorders at two convenient locations:

  • Riverview Medical Center, 1 Riverview Plaza, Red Bank, NJ 07701

  • 100 Commons Way, Holmdel, NJ 07733
