Vision Correction Laser Surgery
Riverview Medical Center's state-of-the-art VISX STAR 3 ActiveTrak Excimer Laser System is the most advanced vision correction treatment available today. This one-time procedure can eliminate dependence on glasses or contact lenses for patients with nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
VISX Excimer Laser Surgery is:
- done on an outpatient basis.
- computer controlled for safe accurate and effective results.
- usually completed in 20 minutes or less for most patients.
- virtually painless (some patients may experience discomfort for one to three days after treatment).
- approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for all classes of pilot certification.
- Federal Drug Administration (FDA) approved.
Computer Accuracy Ensured
The VISX STAR 3 ActiveTrak Excimer Laser System uses cool laser technology to correct imperfect vision by precisely removing microscopic amounts of tissue from the surface of the eye (generally 20 to 50 microns, less than the thickness of a human hair).
A cool laser beam of light gently reshapes the cornea (surface of the eye) to correct vision. Most patients achieve 20/20 vision or better. The STAR 3 System incorporates a unique 3-D eye-tracker, which tracks the patient's eye and guides the laser.
The ActiveTrak System moves the laser with the eye, keeping the laser and patient's pupil exactly aligned during the procedure. It also uses variable beam technology, which allows the physician to treat patients with different laser beam sizes and shapes, depending on the patient's individual visual needs.
No Dilation Necessary
The ActiveTrak System does not require dilation, which can be uncomfortable and cause light sensitivity for several hours. Without dilation, most patients are able to enjoy the results of vision improvement right away.
