Pulmonary Services at Riverview Medical Center
Pulmonary Rehabilitation
The pulmonary rehabilitation program at Riverview Medical Center is designed for people living with advanced or chronic lung disease, such as emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, lung cancer, and more. Used in conjunction with prescribed medical therapy, our dedicated pulmonary rehabilitation curriculum uses a combination of exercise, education, nutritional counseling, smoking cessation, breathing strategies, medication, and support to maximize lung function and improve the well-being of our patients.

- Asthma
- Pulmonary fibrosis
- Cystic fibrosis
- Pulmonary hypertension
- Sarcoidosis
- Asbestosis
- Emphysema
- Chronic bronchitis
- Lung cancer
- Pre-and post- thoracic surgery procedures, including lung transplantation and lung volume reduction surgery
Your Care Team
Our team is led by highly trained registered respiratory therapists who work with a multi-disciplinary team of health care professionals including board certified pulmonologists, registered nurses, physical therapists, dieticians, and psychologists.
Three specialized tracks
To meet the unique needs of our patients our program is made up of three highly specialized tracks including:
- Medical Intensive Program – for patients diagnosed with pulmonary disease
- Perioperative Pulmonary Program – for patients who have had or who are preparing to undergo lung or lung transplantation surgery
- Graduate (Phase 3) Maintenance Pulmonary Program – final stage for patients who have completed any of the other programs and wish to continue to benefit from Pulmonary Rehabilitation involvement
Respiratory Care
Riverview’s highly trained respiratory therapists are a vital part of the pulmonary team, assisting in the planning, evaluation, and treatment of patients with cardiac and pulmonary disorders. Our therapists are certified in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, pediatric life support, and neonatal resuscitation program.
Using patient-driven protocols, assessments, and therapeutic instruments, our therapists are available to provide the best care possible for both inpatients and outpatients.
Inpatient Services:
- Oxygen administration and delivery
- Aerosolized medication delivery
- Metered dose inhaler administration
- Ventilator (Life-support) initiation, management and discontinuation
- Airway management
- Non-invasive (CPAP/BiPAP) initiation, management & discontinuation
- Arterial Blood Gas procurement and analysis
- Intubation & intubation assistance
- Continuous Overnight Oximetry studies
- Disease-specific education for patients and family
- Smoking Cessation education for patients and family
- Bedside Pulmonary Function Spirometry
- Untreated Obstructive Sleep Apnea assessments
- Chest Physiotherapy via The Vest HFCWO device
- Patient Evaluation for Sleep Studies and Pulmonary Rehabilitation services
Outpatient Services:
- Complete Pulmonary Function Testing
- Cardiopulmonary Stress Testing
- Oxygenation Desaturation Study
- Arterial Blood Gas procurement and analysis
- 6 Minute Walk Test (Endurance Analysis Study)
- Pulmonary Disease support seminars and classes
