Women’s Support Services at Riverview Medical Center Designed by Women, for Women
Nutrition is a very important part of overall well-being during and after cancer treatment. Because cancer and its treatment can impact digestive health, the registered dieticians at Riverview Medical Center provide personalized nutrition counseling and diet plans to help our patients feel their best.
The rehabilitation program is available before, during and after treatment. Working to gain control over issues related to fatigue, weakness and lymphedema, rehabilitation maintains and restores physical and emotional well-being.
Dedicated nurses work as advocates for patients and families to coordinate all aspects of care. Navigators provide support and serve as a consistent point of contact to manage the many medical care decisions and appointments patients may face.
Case management and licensed clinical social workers counsel and support patients and their families as they transition from inpatient to outpatient services.
The award-winning Art Therapy Program at Riverview Medical Center has helped patients cope with issues of grief and chronic illness. Art Therapy provides a safe and creative outlet led by an experienced licensed clinical social worker and a board-certified art therapist.
Pain management is an important topic to discuss with your healthcare provider. It is normal to experience general discomfort, headaches, and muscle strains. Your healthcare provider can assist you with proper treatment for any pain you may experience.
Weekly Multi-Disciplinary Tumor Conferences
Medical collaboration is integral in the treatment of cancer. At Riverview, breast imagers, surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists and other specialists work together to provide the best treatment plan for each of our cancer patients. Through tumor conferences and clinical meetings, the team comes together to discuss the best approach to total patient care.
Riverview offers many types of support groups that serve cancer patients and their families. Group members find solace in sharing their feelings, experiences, and concerns with those who have gone or are going through similar experiences.
Integrative Health and Medicine
Integrative Health and Medicine offers a comprehensive selection of wellness services and options that take care of the whole person – mind, body, and spirit. The programs offered include: therapeutic yoga classes, group exercise classes, massage and reflexology, nutritional counseling, and medical fitness membership.
Family history or genetic factors can increase an individual’s risk for cancer. Riverview’s genetic counseling program provides risk assessments and possible testing so you can take preventive steps to protect your health.
Choosing to participate in a clinical trial is an important personal decision. It is beneficial to consult with a physician before deciding to participate as a patient in a clinical trial. If accepted, you will be given a schedule of tests, appointments, and treatments to follow.
The Financial Counseling Program offered at Riverview provides advice and
assistance to patients regarding medical bills. The financial counselors act as a liaison between patients and their insurance company. If insurance coverage is an issue, they will work to determine financial assistance eligibility and payment arrangements.
Palliative care can include anything from relief from symptoms, pain, and stress, to assistance with insurance, support groups and advance care planning. Palliative care may also involve nonmedical support for the patient and family members. Emotional support, spiritual guidance, and assistance navigating the healthcare system can also be provided. If a patient has anxiety or depression as a result of his or her illness, palliative care can help.
